05 | Megan Hustwaite on Passion, Embracing Vulnerability and Finding Ways to "Make It Work".
Description
Passion can be defined as "an intense desire or enthusiasm for something". It's often a term that gets thrown around when setting goals or contemplating career change, but very few manage to truly find the thing that fuels them each and every day. For me, I still haven't found it. I'd say I'm passionate about lots of different things, but am still searching for that one thing that provides me with the constant drive and motivation to achieve greatness each time I roll out of bed.
Megan Hustwaite has had no such problem. A freelance journalist, she has spent almost 20 years perfecting her craft within all aspects of the media landscape. Working in print media, radio, television, podcasting and hosting events, Megan's passion for her work has lead to her being one of the most recognised and highly regarded media personalities in the Australian sporting scene. But as usual, life hasn't always gone to plan.
Today we explore how Megan's mindset and approach to her career has allowed her to overcome constant challenges, from entering the media world as a 17 year old, to navigating COVID-19 after going out on her own, and bouncing back from a number of devastating low points that life has thrown up. We discuss the relationship shared between the media and athletes, and how taking pride in yourself and your behaviours can lead to life-changing friendships and clarity around the people that you have in your corner.
A lesson in professionalism, resilience and the beauty of being vulnerable, this discussion is full of self reflection, and life lessons that anyone will be able to relate to.
Megan and I do touch on some confronting issues, and if you or those you care about are affected in any way by this conversation, please reach out to Lifeline on 13 11 14 or via lifeline.org.au
